Science fiction writers are always going on about faster-than-light travel. And why wouldn’t they? You want your characters to get to their adventure destination so they can fight evil and discover the love of their life. Without FTL travel, their great-great-grandchildren would be the ones having adventures. And of course, after generations of living in a clanky old ship, they’re not going to be fit for planet-bound adventure anyway.
We (the science fiction writers and I) are all making this up, of course… but this is what you’d see if you looked out the viewport as the ship reached the speed of light.
Once you start going faster then the speed of light… well, that’s when it gets really interesting. Maybe I should paint some of that, eh?
