Small Abstract No. 10

Small Abstract No. 10After teasing you for a few days, I finally give you… PURPLE!  And a squiggle that looks like an ampersand or an eight or an infinity symbol or maybe even a lariet.

The holidays are over… it’s time to go back to work and be a geek.  The only resolution I made for this year is to seriously downsize my life.  That means giving away or selling a whole lot of stuff, and moving into a smaller house.  This one is entirely too big for just me and Mr. Aerten.  So if anyone knows of someone who’d love a 3200 square foot Victorian in Albany, do let me know.

Small Abstract No. 9Blue plus red equals purple!  It’s interesting that the blue and the red watercolors in this painting managed to stay separated as well as they did.

Today’s squiggles remind me of Japanese kanji writing.  Actually, it looks more like sōsho or grass script writing.

One of the books I received for the holidays is Zen Brushwork by Tanchu Terayama.  It’s fascinating that the brushwork is done on large sheets of paper with rather large brushes… not something suited to these tiny watercolors I’ve been presenting here.

Small Abstract No. 8Next to purples, I think blues might be my favorite colors.  I’m fickle, though, so it might be something other than blue.

The little spots of white remind me of raindrops in puddles.  Perhaps the squiggle is one of those worms you always see on the sidewalks when it rains.  (Don’t you feel sorry for those poor little worms?  They seem so lost and sad lying there on the concrete.)

There are two little bits of news to impart to you:

  • Mr. Aerten has started a blog where he is posting stories he’s written about his WoW character.  The blog is called Conversations with Mezzy.
  • I’m selling off some of my no-longer-used stamps on eBay.  If you’re into rubber stamping, card making, scrapbooking… check out the auctions.

Small Abstract No. 7To me, this has a very Zen feel to it.  It certainly doesn’t hurt that the white part is kind of a circle.

It always amazes me how much I like the paintings I do with oranges and yellows.  For decades I thought I didn’t like these colors, probably because I’m violently allergic to wearing orange or yellow.  (With my skin tone, I kind of look like a dead fish in orange and yellow and brown and anything except Kelly green.)  But I sure do like looking at little pieces of sunshine.
